The Inner Game and Embodiment
14.30-16.30 BST – 8th October 2026
& 15.00-16.00 GMT – 29th October 2026
This webinar is part of our Masterclass series. Each event will include an invitation to practice and embody your explorations. The follow-up session will be an opportunity to review your experiences, insights and questions.
In 1974 Timothy Gallwey published The Inner Game of Tennis — a book that was not really about tennis. It was about what gets in the way of people functioning at their natural best, and what becomes possible when that interference is reduced. His insight — that the primary obstacle to performance is self-generated, and that awareness and trust of the body’s own intelligence are more powerful than instruction and correction in many ways shaped the foundations of what we now call coaching.
At its heart the Inner Game is an embodied practice. Gallwey created his approach through watching how people actually learn — through the body, through direct experience, through awareness rather than instruction. Its central principles — awareness, critical variables, the interfering mind of Self 1, the trust of Self 2’s natural capability — are not abstractions, they live in our embodied experience.
“Awareness of what is, without judgment, is relaxing, and is the best precondition for change”
Tim Gallwey
Exploring the Inner Game
In this session we will explore these elements and how performance can break down under pressure, how awareness without judgment creates natural change, and why sometimes the most powerful coaching question could simply be “What do you notice?” It is a journey in awareness and attention, quietening the critic, and in trusting and allowing.
What we will cover
The session will be practically grounded drawing on a long history of conceptual and embodied exploration, with space to experience as well as to think. The aim is to open a territory and mode of inquiry that you can continue with in your own way.
“Not assuming you already know is a powerful principle of focus”
Tim Gallwey
Who this is for
Coaches, consultants, and facilitators with some grounding or simply interest in somatic or embodied practice. No prior knowledge of the Inner Game is needed, just curiosity in integrative embodiment.
Facilitated by Paul King
Paul King is a somatic practitioner and coach with over thirty years of experience working with coaches, consultants, and leaders. He is the first European-certified trainer in Wendy Palmer’s Leadership Embodiment lineage and co-founder of The Beyond Partnership.
His work is integrative by nature — drawing on the Inner Game, Leadership Embodiment, polyvagal theory, Feldenkrais, complexity thinking, neuroscience, NLP and Taoist philosophy as a connected body of understanding developed through decades of practice, teaching, and inquiry. This webinar reflects that approach.
