The significance of the mental game in sports is now commonly acknowledged. Athletes and coaches talk and write frequently about the importance of ‘what goes on between the ears’. We absolutely concur with this and it is also true that performing at your best is about heart as well as head and body. When we get these parts of us to be working together in a smart functional way and not in competition with each other we often find ourselves in the ‘zone’ and performing at our best.
Whether you are a professional, keen amateur or a budding star we can work with you on managing and raising your performance. Focusing on the ‘inner game’ in training and competition to complement and enhance your physical practice and performance.
Our approach draws upon Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Inner Game Coaching, other high performance psychologies and plus mind-body practices drawn from the martial arts and mindfulness traditions.
Paul King, co-founder of Beyond, trained in the Inner Game approach to coaching with Sir John Whitmore, David Hemery (Olympic Gold Medalist) and Alan Fine (coach to many professional golfers). He is also a Master Practitioner and Trainer in NLP, as well as being a certified teacher of Conscious Embodiment and qualified as a Feldenkrais Practitioner which focuses on movement re-education.
The Inner Game approach was developed by Tim Gallwey and is described in his various books, including The Inner Game of Tennis and The Inner Game of Golf. NLP is a highly practical approach to developing performance across contexts derived from modelling what people do the create results – see NLP.
Conscious Embodiment is part of our approach to what we call Somatic Intelligence – the body, mind, emotions and spirit working together to achieve your aspirations for doing and being – see Soma School.
