David Richo

David Richo has been a significant influence on us for the past twenty years. He has a deeply rich understanding of the human condition and an engaging style. We are delighted to host Dave's workshops on his visits to the UK.

Dave is a psychotherapist, teacher, and writer who draws upon Jungian, Buddhist, and poetic perspectives in his work and is an extraordinary and wise author and teacher about the human condition. He leads popular workshops at the famous Esalen Institute, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Santa Barbara City College.

Dave is the author of many books including, How to Be an Adult, How to Be an Adult in Relationships, Shadow Dance: Liberating the Power and Creativity of Your Dark Side, The Five Things We Cannot Change and the Happiness We Find by Embracing Them, When the Past is Present, Daring to Trust, How to be an Adult in Love: Letting Love in Safely and Showing it Recklessly and most recently, The Five Longings: What We've Always Wanted And Already Have, which is the subject for his up-comimg workshop below.

He presents a rare clear and coherent description of the link between psychological work and spiritual work. The insights and clarity he offers into our life’s journey and our relationships are true gifts for those who want to live their lives more authentically and help others to do the same. What he teaches can be applied to successful living and relationships inside organisations.

The Five Longings: What We’ve Always Wanted and Already Have

29/30 September 2017

We are delighted to have Dave back with us for his first visit since 2014. He will be leading a two day workshop focussed around his profound new work.
There are five longings deep within us which deeply impact our lives.  Dave will lead us in a journey of exploration, insight and potential transformation. The five longings are,
·      To love and be loved
·      To find meaning in life and to have a meaningful life
·      To be free to be ourselves fully without restraint or inhibition
·      To find true happiness and serenity
·      To keep growing psychologically and spiritually
Each of these five reveals us to ourselves, showing us what we want, what our life is for, what keeps us going, what keeps us looking.
Longings are mysterious. We often can't quite name or explain them. Nor can they ever be perfectly, fully, or finally gratified.
We have longings for the lasting in a world that is always changing. We can take that as a clue to the presence of something transcendent in us. With such consciousness we finally discover that all five longings reflect qualities in our true nature. We are seeking what we are.
